Why not just use Stripe directly?

You can. Stripe handles the actual payment. What Stripe doesn't give you is a client list, quotes, invoice templates, automatic reminders, recurring billing, or a paid/unpaid dashboard. Billebly adds that layer on top of Stripe, so you don't have to build it yourself.

How is this different from Wave or Bonsai?

Wave and Bonsai are built to be full accounting or freelance-business suites, with pricing and features to match. Billebly deliberately stays narrow: clients, quotes, invoices, time tracking, and payment status, free to use, with a small fee only on the payments you actually process.

Can I send a client a quote before invoicing them?

Yes. A quote uses the same line items, discount, and tax as an invoice, but nothing's payable until your client accepts it, or you convert it to an invoice yourself whenever you're ready. Accepted quotes can turn into an invoice automatically, right from the client's side.

Who pays Billebly's fee: me or my client?

By default, you do. Stripe's own processing fee always comes out of your payout, that part's fixed. But Billebly's 0.5% fee is your choice: a setting lets you pass it to your client instead, shown as a separate line at checkout.

When do I get paid, and can I still refund a payment?

Payouts are sent automatically to your bank account as soon as a payment succeeds, on Stripe's own schedule, with no holding period. You can refund a payment at any time too, in full or in part, right from the invoice page, with no deadline either way.

Is there a limit on how much I can invoice for?

New accounts start with a lower limit that rises automatically as you build a payment history, it's a fraud check, not a growth cap. Need a higher limit right away? Just reach out.

Yes. Recurring and subscription billing is built in, so you can charge retainer clients automatically on a schedule.

Is there a referral program?

Yes. Invite another business from your Billebly settings. Once they sign up and process their first payment, you both get up to €1000 of processed payments with 0% Billebly fee (Stripe's own processing fee still applies).

Do my clients need an account to pay?

No. Clients get a link to a hosted invoice and can pay with a card. No sign-up is required on their end.

Are Billebly invoices EU e-invoicing compliant?

Yes. Every invoice is automatically generated as a UBL 2.1 XML file structured to the EN 16931 European e-invoicing standard and attached alongside the regular PDF in the emails your client already gets - no extra step. Want your own copies for bookkeeping? Export everything you've generated in bulk from Settings. Need to correct an invoice after the fact? Issue a credit note straight from it, in the same EN 16931-compliant format.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

There is nothing to "stop paying" for the core product. It stays free. If you simply stop using Billebly, your data stays in your account and you can export it at any time.
